Alan's 24km Swim

By Alan FitzGerald Join Me

Please help me to be Limitless For MS!

This time, a 24km swim.  I know, I know....

My story.

Just over 25 years ago, I woke up, and something weird happened to me - my eyes weren't working properly, and parts of my face, my legs and my hands were numb. I went to a local doctor whose instructions of 'Get to a hospital NOW!' kinda freaked me out. A week later, I was discharged with a new diagnosis of MS - how did this happen?

Well, that's the big question that is being worked on - why does it happen...?

There have been some recent advances that are fantastic, but ongoing research and care are always required.

I am an absolute rarity - apart from minimal effects, I have dodged a bullet - but many won't.

I am also a keen swimmer and will be doing a 24km swim in February 2025 from Safety Beach to Sorrento - - so why not see if I can raise some funds to help out?

Any amount is welcome, and thanks for your support!

I've got it; it doesn't have me!

Al

I'd love for you to follow my journey through this fundraising page and for any support fundraising wise you can assist with.

Any donation will ensure that Aussies are well supported while they face the challenge of living with multiple sclerosis!

MS is the most common disease of the central nervous system - currently there is no cure.

It's quite staggering to think that multiple sclerosis affects more young people than any other neurological condition, with the average age of diagnosis just 30 years old - I was about 26!.

Every case of multiple sclerosis is unique - the symptoms, severity and progress of the disease are different for everyone.

You can ensure Aussies living with multiple sclerosis can break down barriers, achieve goals and live well by making a secure online donation.

Thank you for your support.

Baby food - the surprising choice for nutrition

Monday 3rd Feb
10kms into a 14km swim, sometimes you just need some baby food - an unlikely source of power during long swims. Taper week has arrived, a huge number of kilometres under my belt (togs...?) so little or no swimming until event day on the 8th February...

A while between drinks - a quick update

Monday 13th Jan
So the last few weeks have seen me swim about 70kms, that has included a few 10km+ swims, one yesterday in bloody horrible conditions; but that is partly the reason I am doing this:  I am a lucky one WHO CAN get out and swim 10Km.  Pain as they say is temporary: glory is for ever.  I'm not sure how much glory I'll take from this, but I do know that major pharmaceutical companies, especially those making painkillers, will be my new friends - OMG my shoulders ache...

5km+ to St Kilda West & back

450kms in the past 12 months

Friday 8th Nov
I noticed today that - according to my watch - I have swum more than 450kms in the past 12 months - it might explain why my shoulders hurt and I sleep so well...
