I AM TREKKING THE IKARA-FLINDERS-RANGES TO FIGHT MS!
As family, friends and colleagues know, my sister Karen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2009.
Multiple Sclerosis is the most common disease of the central nervous system. There is currently no known cure. Every case of multiple sclerosis is unique – the symptoms, severity and progress of the disease are different for everyone. Karen has the rare form known as Primary Progressive MS which is always degenerative.
So
this year from May 28th to June 2nd, I have committed to trekking the
rugged country of the ancient Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park to
raise money for vital research, and increase services so those
living with MS can live their best lives at home, in the work place
and in the community.
For
five days I will be hiking through the tough mountain ranges,
towering cliffs, spectacular gorges and stony sheltered creeks of
Wilpena Pound, Mount Remarkable National Park, Brachina Gorge and the
Alligator Gorge. The trek has a difficulty rating of 3/5 with long
days of walking with uneven terrain across the Ranges… and those of
you that know me, know I'm no spring chicken!
This
will be my opportunity to travel with purpose. My journey will be
physically demanding and emotionally challenging but with every step
I’ll be thinking how much I wish Karen were able to walk with me.
