The MS Plus Ikara-Flinders Ranges Adventure

Marching for Mum <3

In May next year I will complete a trek for 5 days of sunburnt Aussie land, through the Ikara-Flinders Ranges. My goal? Raise $3k to go towards MS Plus, a life-saving service of heroes who help people who suffer with Multiple Sclerosis. 

Heroes like my Mum, Sue. 

Mum was diagnosed with MS in 2000. We were on a family holiday in Warnambool when her leg went numb. It traveled up her left side and eventually her vision began to be affected. "That was the nail in the coffin", Mum's vision had turned to zig-zags. Mum now lives day to day with symptoms such as foot-drop, fatigue, brain fog and memory problems. 

Mum left her job after her diagnosis to work for MS Plus. A free helpline that helps provide employment, peer support and health services to people with MS. She uses her personal experience to validate and relate to her clients, to help them when they're at their most vulnerable. 

Mum is a constant source of strength for me. I draw inspiration from her endless optimism in the face of adversity, as well as the way she lives her life helping others in need. Perhaps most importantly, the way she never lets anything get in the way of living her life will forever be motivation for how I try to lead my life. The Flinders-Ikara Trek to me seems only a small way to show that. My ultimate dream would be to find a cure for MS. For that dream I'll contribute in anyway I can.
